04/01/2015 : What a cracker! The last sale of 2015 goes out with a bang!
A packed saleroom awaited buyers for our December auction of Toys, Antiques, Wines and Spirits. A Victorian yellow metal belcher generated huge interest, the hammer eventually falling at £1,150, having had various phone bidders vying for the chance to own it.
Elsewhere in the Jewellery section an 18ct gold dress ring set with a large Tanzanite surrounded with diamonds sold for £420.
In our ever popular Furniture section a hand carved four poster king size bed from the Somerset Guild of Carvers raised £760 and a 19th century walnut breakfast table on heavily carved base, width 135cm and six mahogany red upholstered dining chairs with foliate carved splats realised £580.
As part of a strong Oriental & Eastern Works of Art section, a pair of early 20th century Chinese figurines, one of an Oriental lady holding a basket of flowers seated on an elephant and the other an Oriental gentleman seated on a dragon sold for £620, and a late 19th early 20th century Oriental ginger jar with cover in the famille verte palette decorated with family figures and horsemen made £400.
The festivities continued when during the Toys section Corgi proved it’s popularity once again as a quantity of playworn diecast vehicles sold for £240. Also in this section a very large Armand Marseille bisque head composition jointed body doll realised £220.
Other sale highlights included a pair of George IV hallmarked silver salvers which made £400 and everybody’s favourite Victorian hallmarked silver peacock by Solomon Nathan Nyberg which sold for a very respectable £360.
