08/10/2015 : Maritime Madness
The specialist section of our October sale encouraged maritime collectors to bid on a wide selection of items, local interest being sparked by the inclusion of a unique icon “The Bold Street Shell Ship” which sold for £680, whilst the highest selling lot was a Siebe Gorman & Co. twelve bolt copper divers helmet which sold for £3300.
A beautiful David Cartwright oil on canvas depicting men-of-war in heavy seas realised £1350, a very rare late 18th century creamware mug depicting “An East View of Liverpool Lighthouse and Signals on Bidston Hill, 1788” sold for £540 and an excellent four-drawer telescope by Michael Baeder of Munich went under the hammer for £380.
Elsewhere in the sale a massive private collection of T.G.Green ceramics had keen collectors vying to own some rare examples, with the complete section realising nearly £4000.
Maybe not “Tour de France” material, nevertheless a limited edition ladies bicycle by Gucci and displayed in their Paris showrooms was something of a “Tour de Force” when it sold for £800, surely one of our most unusual lots!
Our sale on the 4th November features a very special “Rock & Pop” section, in which we will be selling the Beatles Master Tape recording of the Fab Four playing in The Cavern Club in 1962, The miniature bible belonging to and signed by Eleanor Rigby, a rare signed Beatles “Hard Days Night”, original posters of “The Clash” and much more.
