09/08/2013 : Fantastic fireman's collection fuels the flames of fortune........

An extraordinary collection relating to Liverpool was the star of the recent sale at Adam Partridge Auctioneers in Liverpool. The group all related to the Liverpool fire service and had been consigned by a client who's mother, grandfather and great grandfather had all served in the Fire Brigade.

There was a rare silver plated helmet (one of only twenty known in the world), and axe, two belts, lamp and a pair of leather boots with original trees. A local private collector fought off determined online bidders to keep the wonderful collection in the city, and secured them for 1150.

One of the surprises of the day came as part of a strong section of toys. As the football season was just beginning it was a collection of Subbuteo which saw a battle between an online bidder and a collector in the room push the bidding from 100 to 1050. Produced in the 1970's and 80's, it proves that the collectors' market does not reply on items being hugely old to result in them being valuable. This was also the case with a fantastic collection of trains. Consigned by a client on the Wirral who had put the group together over the past 20 years, they were catalogued in detail and grouped into 90 lots. Again the internet lit up, and with a number of interested parties in the room, every lot sold achieving a total of 7595.

With a classic car, bike and automobilia sale scheduled for Spring 2014, a test of the market came with a 1989 Austin Metro Vanden Plas car. In very good condition throughout a regular buyer purchased the car for 880......based on the fact that it was built in the year of his birth!

The picture section was topped by a small watercolour by the ever popular Northern artist Brian Shields. It was entitled "The Horse Traders" and saw two telephone bidders go head to head before being sold for 800.

Elsewhere, part three of a collection of Della Robbia pottery realised over 3000, a quantity of coins made 720, and the jewellery and silver section maintained the recent strong results in this area.

The next sale at Adam Partridge Auctioneers in Liverpool is on Wednesday 4th September and already consigned is a collection of 1000 wrist and pocket watches. For all enquiries please contact the saleroom on 0151 709 8070 or email auctions@theliverpoolsaleroom.co.uk.
