Some great prices were achieved at our February sale of Antiques, Collectors’ Items with Jewellery and Watches, it opened to a packed saleroom with bidders attracted by a wide range of antiques and collectibles. One of the more unusual items which sold extremely well was a carved Staunton chess set in walnut case, the rook with printed emblem to the top and the base of the king printed "Jacques London", after much interest it eventually sold for £580.
Joint first place for the highest result goes to an 18ct yellow gold three stone diamond ring and an 18ct gold brick link bracelet, with each item realising a neat £1,000.
Other top results this month were included within a much anticipated Coins section, highlights in this category were a gold krugerrand coin, 1975 and a gold twenty dollar coin, 1877, which made £640 and £740 respectively.
To prove that high quality furniture is still in demand, a large Victorian mahogany wind out dining table with six oak bar back chairs realised £290. In the Ceramics section, the highest price paid on the day was for a Moorcroft baluster vase decorated in the "Finches" pattern on a green ground which sold for £290.
