16/08/2016 : August Sale Highlights

There were some great results in our August Auction, including this beautiful 18ct gold full hunter pocket watch which fetched 1800. A local piece, the watch was made by John Kellie of 21 Norton Street, Liverpool and was sold with a rose gold Albert chain. Elsewhere in our watches section, a gentleman's Omega stainless steel wristwatch sold for 500.

 


John Kellie Pocket Watch


There were some great results in our August Auction, including this beautiful 18ct gold full hunter pocket watch which fetched £1800. A local piece, the watch was made by John Kellie of 21 Norton Street, Liverpool and was sold with a rose gold Albert chain. Elsewhere in our watches section, a gentleman's Omega stainless steel wristwatch sold for £500.


 


Silver Trophy


Our silver section was also a success, with this Victorian hallmarked silver twin handled trophy cup, given as a prize for ballroom dancing selling for £860 and a George V hallmarked silver twin handle trophy cup selling for £330.


Beswick Horse


In the ceramics section, a chestnut coloured Beswick shire horse sold for £600 and a collection of four Royal Doulton 'Children of the Blitz' figurines brought £320.


Military Journal


Our scientific and militaria items also excelled, with this leather-bound account of the battles of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift, Zululand, 22nd January 1879, by Captn. Penn Symons bringing £360. The journal is one of only two typed copies, with the original handwritten version owned by South Wales Borders Regimental Museum. The journal was bought by the Victoria Cross Trust Museum in Ashworth Barracks, Doncaster. 


Slides


This fascinating collection of predominantly late 19th century microscope slides included examples labelled for the expedition of HMS Challenger 1875 and sold for £440.
