It’s time for our August auction with lots to include Jewellery, Silver, Furniture, Clocks, Paintings and Prints, Decorative Arts, Collectables, Ceramics, Glass, Coins, Militaria, Sporting Memorabilia, Oriental and Asian Works of Art, Watches and more.


We have some fantastic lots for you this month with over 100 lots of jewellery, including this beautiful 18ct gold diamond solitaire ring with approx. 2ct of diamond (lot 506), an 18ct yellow gold star sapphire cabochon ring (lot 511) and a 9ct diamond and sapphire pendant on a 9ct fine link chain (lot 568).


There are plenty of highlights in our silver section, including this William IV hallmarked sterling silver entrée dish by SW & Co, with retailer's mark 'Wordley & Mayer' and monogram 'T' for Colonel Robert Trimble (lot 455), a large Art Deco octagonal silver salver, (lot 458) and a George II hallmarked silver salver of shaped circular form with engraved floral and bird decoration (lot 459A).


Our arts sections are also well-represented, with this watercolour attributed to Thomas Gainsborough FRSA (1727-1788) (lot 334), a watercolour by William R C Watson (1866-1921) (lot 333), a watercolour, 'Patchwork Quilt' by Katherine Church (1910-1987) who had connections to the Bloomsbury Group (lot 338), an oil on canvas by J F Smith (born 1934), one of the Worcester Fruit painters for the Royal Worcester factory (lot 319) and an Arthur Dooley bronze and wrought iron sculpture, 'Veronica', one of the six Stations of the Cross for St. Mary's Church Leyland, commissioned in 1970 (lot 287).


Elsewhere in the sale we have a collection of vintage hi-fi and audio equipment (lots 367-378), a collection of proof coins (lots 412-430) and much more!

We will also be joined on sale day by David Dickinson and the team of Dickinson’s Real Deal, who will be filming their lots selling early on in the auction. Their lots are out of order with the rest of the catalogue due to time restrictions; so here is a list of their lots to ensure you don’t miss anything:

Lot 15 - A full-size Fibreglass armoured horse and mounted knight, with bridlery and lance, height of horse approx 200cm.

Lot 30 - A modern reproduction oak longcase clock with rolling moon, Roman dial, striking on the quarter, with a selection of chimes including Westminster Chime, Whittington Chime and St. Michael's Chime, on twelve rods, height 187cm.

Lot 45 - A collection of mid-to-late 20th century mainly British Aircraft Corporation - Military Aircraft Division black and white photographs of visiting dignitaries and unusual events, including photographs of visits by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Princess Margaret, Denis Healey, Margaret Thatcher sat in a fighter plane, Harold Wilson, with photographs of Spitfire fighter plane, Tornado, the record-breaking Canberra, a photograph of a flaming plane crash, Concord during manoeuvres etc.

Lot 60 - G DELUCA (19TH/20TH CENTURY); a pair of 19th century Neapolitan watercolour portraits, one of an old lady in headscarf, the other of a white bearded gentleman in hat and coat, each signed lower-right, 33.5 x 23cm, gilt-framed and glazed.

Lot 75 - A 19th century German bisque 'Pee Willy' novelty figure of a micturating boy, 'Simply fill with water and blow', approx height 10cm.

Lot 90 - An early 20th century oak Arts and Crafts picture frame decorated with plaster reliefs including a countryside landscape to the frieze, flanking stylised Art Nouveau thistle columns to each side and with Robert Burns' 'Selkirk Grace' beneath, with a print of H. J. Dobson's 'Burns' Grace' mounted in the frame, height 59.5cm, width 70cm, with obscured paper label verso.

Lot 105 - JRR Tolkien; The Hobbit, third edition, fourth impression, 1968, illustrated by the author, published London, George Allen and Unwin Ltd, Ruskin House, Museum Street, with dust jacket.     

Lot 120 - An autograph book containing the signatures of Manchester United players from the early-to-mid 20th century, including Rone Burke, G Crompton, Billy McGlen, Eddie Buckle, John Anderson, G Chilton, John Aston, Henry Cockburn, John Rawley, Johnny Carey, Charlie Mitten and Tom Curry, both the Australian and England Ashes teams of 1956 and another autograph book to include signatures of Worcestershire Second XI and others, along with assorted illustrations, cartoons and two associated sporting books; one on Stanley Matthews, the other 'The Cumulative Cricket Scoring Book' (4).   

Lot 135 - Two Ditchfield Glasform teardrop witches' balls from the 'Unique' collection, each with chain hanger and unique iridescent design, height of each 29cm (2).

Lot 136 - Two Ditchfield iridescent Glasform studio glass vases, height of largest 15cm, with apple and pear Glasform paperweights and a heart-shaped Glasform paperweight signed by John Ditchfield (5).

Lot 137 - A Ditchfield Glasform mushroom paperweight with sterling silver frog, signed to the bottom by John Ditchfield with original paper label, a Ditchfield Glasform mushroom-shaped paperweight with sterling silver fairy, signed to the bottom by John Ditchfield, with original paper label, height 16cm, a Ditchfield globe paperweight from the 'Glasform Series' and a signed John Ditchfield Glasform paperweight in the form of a beehive with sterling silver bee, with original paper label (4).

Lot 152 - A pair of white gold mounted five-stone diamond cluster earrings surrounded by chip diamonds, marked '750' verso, with '1.75ct weight' marked to the back of one earring, approx 4.5g, 1 x 1cm.

Lot 153 - A pair of 18ct white gold nine-stone cluster earrings in a square setting, with central princess-cut diamond flanked by four baguette diamonds and four chip diamonds, approx 3.25g, 0.6 x 0.6cm.

Lot 154 - A yellow metal and diamond-set cross-over ring, believed to be 14ct, set with baguette-cut and chip diamonds and a diamond cluster ring with twelve-stone rectangular table flanked by chip and baguette diamond mounted shoulders, unmarked but believed to be 14ct, both sized R 1/2, approx combined 11.3g (2).

Lot 155 - A yellow metal diamond daisy cluster ring with central seven-stone cluster flanked by chip and baguette-set shoulder, size R and a yellow metal diamond cluster ring with nine-stone diamond table flanked by four-stone diamond stepped shoulders, flanked on either side by shoulder-mounted diamonds, size R 1/2, unmarked but believed to be 14ct, approx combined 12.5g (2).

Lot 156 - An impressive yellow metal diamond cluster ring with rectangular tablet set with six 1ct diamonds and with shoulder diamonds set in three graduated rows, unmarked but believed to be 14ct, size R, approx 12g.
