12/04/2018 : April Auction Highlights

A roundup of results from our April Maritime auction

We had a fantastic Maritime Auction last week, with a packed saleroom and hundreds of online bidders ensuring some fantastic results. We also welcomed the team from Antiques Roadship with their experts James Braxton and Roo Irvine, whose lots flew out at the start of the sale.

Our paintings performed very well indeed, with this beautiful Jersey coastal scene by Philip John Ouless selling for £8,800 after fierce competition from online and phone bidders and another unsigned painting of his selling for £880. The paintings were consigned by a direct descendant of the artist and we expect to receive more Ouless paintings in our coming auctions. Elsewhere in our paintings section, an oil on board of a Liverpool by the Liverpool Lowry Brian Shields, also known as 'Braaq', sold for £5,000 and a Haynes King RBA oil on canvas sold for £840.

The Watch and Clock sections also did well, with highlights including this Tudor stainless steel automatic 'Oyster Prince' wristwatch, which sold for £1,450, a Rolex stainless steel Oyster Perpetual Datejust wristwatch which brought £1,250 and a Jaeger-LeCoultre 'Atmos Borne' mantel clock, which sold for £860.

We had a great collection of Royal Doulton figures, which all surpassed their estimates, including this set of four limited edition figures from the 'Egyptian Queens' collection, which brought £620 and a set of seven limited edition figures from the 'Ships' Figureheads Collection', which also brought £620.

The stars of the furniture section included this Victorian cast iron garden bench which sold for £780 and a mid-18th century mahogany folding card table brought £440. Our maritime items also sold well, with a large collection of shipping-related photographs and postcards bringing £880 and a similar, smaller collection bringing £840. A 19th century cased barograph with barometer dial and thermometer, by Chadburn of Liverpool brought £480.

Our next auction is Antiques and Collectors' Items with Rock and Pop Memorabilia, on Wednesday 2nd May 2018 at 10.00, with viewing on Tuesday 1st May from 10.00-20.00.

We hope to see you there!
