It’s time for our October auction with lots to include Maritime and Transport Antiques, Jewellery, Silver, Furniture, Clocks, Paintings and Prints, Decorative Arts, Collectables, Ceramics, Glass, Coins, Militaria, Sporting Memorabilia, Oriental and Asian Works of Art, Watches and more.


We have a fleet of wonderful maritime lots for you this month; including this large ship’s bell from the cargo ship ‘Bullaren’ (lot 430), a large scratch-built scale replica model of the Cutty Sark tea clipper (lot 422) and an Illinois Watch Company brass gimbal-mounted deck watch (lot 441). We also have an extensive collection of serving ware from various ships, including a trio of ice buckets made for Port Line Shipping, Union Castle Line and Safmarine (lot 449) and a rare White Star Line Spode Copelands plate (lot 480).


In our transport category, we have this Peak Class early diesel locomotive name plate 'Great Gable' (lot 529), an 1864 patent indenture for an invention for improvements in the apparatus for governing or regulating the speed of steam and other engines (lot 531) and carriage-loads of railway items including a large red British Rail Midland Railway lamp (lot 513) and an Edwardian needlework sampler of Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway interest (lot 546).


Our Paintings section is also well-represented with this pastel of a street scene by Harold Riley being the star lot (lot 348) and works by Horace Fisher (lot 355), Jean Axatard (lot 359) and more. There is also a whole raft of maritime-themed artworks such as a selection of paintings by Joe Beetham (lots 371-374) and works by D. J. Kewley (lot 380), Reginald Arthur Borstell (lots 381 and 382) and Wilfred J Houghton PRSA FRSA (lot 393).


The highlights of our Oriental section include this Meiji period Mughal-style ivory elephant decorated in Shibayama style with semi-precious stones (lot 292), a 19th century Chinese ivory carving of Guanyin with hand fan and grapes feeding a stork (lot 285), four Taisho period Japanese ivory figures (lot 288) and two Japanese ivory Meiji period Tokyo school figures (lot 283).


Elsewhere in the sale, we have this exceptional Liverpool interest medal duo comprising 2010 Stanhope Gold Medal and Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society Silver (For Bravery in Saving Life) Fire Medal awarded to Frank Skelhorn for his outstanding bravery in saving the life of his sister and 18-month-old niece from a house fire in Everton, Liverpool (lot 566), polar bear (Ursus Maritimus) full-size rug (lot 568), a George III mahogany chest-on-chest tallboy (lot 19), a collection of RAF 166 Squadron related items from Squadron Leader J. W. Wright (lots 547-551), a Kriegsmarine Third Reich Nazi officer's dagger by Eikhorn Solingen (lot 55) and much more!
