 worcester

“Dr. Foster went to Gloucester in a shower of rain.” “Dr. Wall went to Worcester and made some porcelain.”

If you want it, we have it! From the English nursery of the George III era, two delightful hand-written schoolbooks - no madness here, just beautiful script and illustration! To the history of Worcester porcelain, one gentleman’s amazing collection of very early Dr. Wall period (1751-1776) blue and white pieces decorated with pastoral English scenes and Chinoiserie. Something for all, from a pair of asparagus dishes painted with daffodils to a rare pair of shell-moulded bowls abundantly adorned with flora, vegetables, butterflies and insects. Down through the centuries to the Worcester of the 20th century with a collection of hand-painted pieces by artists Edward Townsend, Ethel Spilsbury, M. Blake, Millie Hunt and H. Martin. With some fine Bow and Caughley ware in between.

 Meiji Bronze

Or be escorted to the Orient by a fabulous pair of 19th century Meiji period bronze Samurai warriors. Through a cornucopia of Chinese ceramics, delightful blue and white and famille rose examples decorated in enamels with cherry blossom, prunus and one example with a gilded crouching tiger peering through peonies. Take a lingering look at the slender form of a lovely young Japanese woman carved in ivory.

Back again to the 20th century with sculptures by Arthur Dooley; ‘Station of the Cross’ and ‘The Bull.’ Not for you? Then visit the jewellery section where you will find a circa 1920s platinum and diamond cocktail watch, a large selection of rings and a beautiful gold enamelled mourning brooch. So if you want it come and get it!
