The Liverpool Saleroom broke all previous records for the sale of a single item when a superb 19th century Captains' logbook came up for sale in our specialist maritime section of the October auction. This fine manuscript document detailing the coasts of the Mediterranean and West Indies in a series of beautiful, fine quality watercolour sections and paintings by Captain J.F. Boxer R.N. attracted bids from far and wide, eventually selling to a telephone bidder from London for a hammer price of £11,000.
Elsewhere in the sale, a Loggerhead Turtle carapace realised £1250 and an impressive George III longcase clock by Obadiah Brandreth of Middlewich sold for £1000. Proving that small is often beautiful, a delightfully petite Royal Copenhagen vase decorated with Harvest Mice and surrounded by a silver base of wheat sheaves made a healthy £320.
Our November auction features a specialist ‘Rock & Pop’ section in which we have collections of Beatles signed ephemera, original Punk clothing and much more. For details please contact the team on 0151 709 8070.
