11/05/2015 : A Centennial Celebration

With nearly eight hundred Lots to choose from, our May sale featured the ever popular specialist Maritime section with over 150 Lots of paintings, collectors items and ephemera. Unquestionably the most poignant item was a rare original passenger list from the final fateful voyage of The Lusitania, which sold for 1100 on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the ships sinking.

Elsewhere in this section, a mid twentieth century acrylic by David Cartwright depicting ships engaged in combat vied with an earlier gouache by William Edgar of the three-masted vessel “Mylomene”, both eventually selling for £1250 each.

Elsewhere in the sale, a rare surviving collection of Liverpool ephemera in the form of 18th and 19th century playbills for various theatres in the city went under the hammer for a very healthy £620, an excellent 9ct gold vintage Rolex sold for £1000 and a beautiful Victorian hallmarked silver four-piece tea set made £800.

Finally, to prove that the demand is still strong for good quality furniture the highest price of the day was realised for a good Art Deco six piece birdseye maple dining suite with cloud back chairs, which sold for an excellent £1850.

Our next sale is on the 3rd June and will feature an excellent specialist toy section in conjunction with our usual selection of quality antiques. For information on this please call the team on 0151 709 8070
